Pardon the long absence. Been out-of-work really meant that there is not much to talk about since nothing is really happening. So i wait till i have a bunch of things to talk about.

Last day of November. Preparation of JET is done. In a few hours i will be getting the last piece of the application package that i need: My professor's reference. There was not much communication between him and myself since the last post. I tried not to bother him about it. It was at the midpoint of November that i thought of sending him a reminder, when he asked for some more time due to his own business. Not that i cannot understand, since it is the exam period now.

Tomorrow i will be heading to the Embassy to turn in my application. Then it will be the waiting game.

The past 7-8 weeks weren't all about the preparation. In fact, it took a way less minute portion of the time than i had liked. Though, ultimately, it wouldn't have mattered if i am done since i still need to wait for my professor to be done with the letter anyways.

Writing the essay was, in a way, easier than I initially thought. Compared to other countries, ours didn't have prompts to comply to so it was pretty much free range for all. I did follow a guide on writing so it wasn't just random words pieced to become an essay. Had a person proofread it, made some edits and now i am feeling good about it.

The application form was a much more complicated thing to fill up. Recommended to use computer typing to fill up but the form was very unfriendly to typing with the format changing after a few words typed. I decided to just handwrite the form after trying to type the first page.

Struggled a bit to fill up my employment status. I am happy now but there's a bit of shame attached to being this free.

Chose my preferred location to teach in. Honestly? Not really a concern of mine whether i get them or not. I had read enough online that our choices are hardly reflective of what we eventually get so i wasn't concerned. I'll be glad to just be over in the country.

Ran around here and there to collect documents. Paid for an additional copy of the transcript. Had copies of my graduation certificate certified by the school. It was nice having the opportunity to go back to school.

The preparation ends tomorrow.

To prepare for my departure soon is premature since i am not sure if i will be shortlisted to go in the end. However, i thought it would still be nice to clean up my room anyways, just in case i am shortlisted. I have heard that the time given upon notice to departure is shorter than one would like, so if i only started then, it might be too late.

Cleaning up my room is not as simple as throwing things out, although i did started with that. When i did went through my stuff, i discarded most of the game boxes and limited edition stuff that i tried hard in the past to collect. This certainly changed my palette for games.

For the non-boxy, space occupying stuff, the games themselves - I've been trying to sell them. It would be helpful to also get some short-term funds to get through this period of doing nothing (although, my own funds are still sufficient). I find myself a bit surprised at how much unopened stuff i have. I hope to clear them out by the start of next year.

Finally, i have been thinking of discarding my bedframe. That would definitely free up the space in the room a lot more. It's going to be a big move though, so i have been holding off on that.

I'll leave it as it is above for now.

Day 2...but i will be writing about yesterday instead. I set off early in the morning at 8am towards Tokyo station from my hotel. It was a good 20 minutes walk and with decent, cooling weather as well. I found out that opposite my building is a Konami building (although, later in the day when i return i would find that the building houses their Esports studio and school. I managed to get a Welcome Suica card at the Information Cafe of Tokyo station after a good 10 minutes of looking at the directory. The process of getting the card was simple as the staff was able to communicate in English. After i have gotten the pass, i started to look for Shinkansen ticketing machines. Because i was leaving in a short while, all of the reserved seats are already occupied and there was not much of a choice here. The plus of a non-reserved Shinkansen ticket is that you are free to board the non-reserved cabins anytime, as the ticket lasts for 4 days. I arrived at the platform to mad crowding. The...
Holy RA it's already near the end of April of 2025. Since the last post i've made a second booking to Japan, been there and returned. The visit this time was less of a rush but at the same time, i spent more time relaxing (idling) in the hotel. Originally i've planned annual visits in October of each year but i kind of felt like going again. So i made a booking towards the end of January. Unfortunately, the timing is not really good this time as the weather was pretty dark and gloomy throughout the trip. The Sun only showed up at the last 2 days of the trip. --- This time, i've visited Shizuoka again for its sushi. Same store. Same taste. I've also went to Enoshima and had "Enoshima Don", a seafood egg rice. I've mistaken "Yurantei" for the "Uomitei" that i wanted to visit. Nonetheless, the food is good. I'll visit someday again. Also, fulfilled my dream of taking the Sunrise Express, visiting Izumo and the famed Izumo Taisha (...
...with how tired i was in Japan daily, it was easy to leave out writing. For example, i'm already back in Singapore. Following the previous post, i made my way to Ueno Park, Senso-ji in Asakusa, Shikansen down to Shizuoka and visited Sunpu Castle, took a river cruise around Sumidagawa with Tokyo Cruise and ended a full day trip spending money in Akihabara buying old consoles. I'll think about whether i want to go into the details. The last actual day, Friday 18 Oct, was kind of a waste as i was "kicked out" of the hotel early and spent the day in the Airport instead. The storage was full so i couldn't leave my luggage in the airport and go somewhere else. I also can only check it in only 3 hours before the actual flight. It's a good trip overall, even with all the downtime. I am already looking forward to returning next year. I am also going to go for a Business class seat again next year.
