Looking back at the previous post, hoo boy, it's been a while. November till now would make it...about 9 months. So much has happened.

So much.

Let me try to put everything down in this post. Or a few posts coming. I should be scared that if i don't finish writing everything down, i might leave another few gaps, huh.

...but i think i am in the mental state to be writing down what has happened, and reflecting on it.

So here we go.

---

I didn't manage to write it down last time although it had already happen by October but my department had a major re-organisation of roles and tasks for mostly everyone not in the higher management tier. The general consensus of the re-org, how it was done and the result of it, is larger negative. A lot of people are affected quite badly.

...and my team pretty much took the worst kind of damage.

The "leader" position was handed to a person widely believed to be the worst kind of person you'll ever want to work with. Initially i was still fine with how the person behaved but as the tasks piled on, i had multiple opportunities to see how the person is.

Imagine you have someone who is a lot less competent than you in every imaginable way, somehow still manage to be put in a management role and yet, still believe themselves to be the better.

(Later we found out it was because there was no other eligible candidates. Not sure how to feel, or am i supposed to feel, about it.)

So there was quite a bit of rage built up over the months. I should say that after almost 10 months of the new structure, we haven't had a team meeting since January (These meetings were supposed to at least take place once a month).

...gone a little bit far ahead. So i am returning to...December?

---

December was hectic and honestly did not have a "Holiday" feeling to it. People were busy with handing over and taking over of information and tasks to their counterparts. I was a bit lucky in the sense that i don't hand over much...but i took over a lot (Fast forward: I am really multi-skilled now! In addition to my usual Patch Management, Storage and Vulnerability Management, i also learnt and picked up skills relating to Active Directory and Exchange) new tasks and responsibilities. I am okay with it though, since i already planned to leave once i get into teaching and the education sector. So i just took it without saying much.

Wish i could say the same for my other teammates.

A few of them complained and a few of them stayed silent.

...but one immediately decided to transfer and burnt a hell lot of bridges to do so.

(At this point, i realized that i had beef with this one guy that happened last October. While there are some details of this conflict that should be made clear in order to paint the person correctly, i decided that the incident was just a bunch of bad things that happened to me and i ain't gonna talk about it since i feel my blood boiling every time i remembered).

As a result, we were dealing with a sudden confusion in roles plus there was an urgency to prepare for an upcoming event that needs a lot of attention.

Welp, no point talking about that. I don't believe in giving attention to people with malicious intentions. Eh.

Nah, i can't write everything down in one post. I'm going to continue next time, whenever it may be.

See ya...and take care.

Day 2...but i will be writing about yesterday instead. I set off early in the morning at 8am towards Tokyo station from my hotel. It was a good 20 minutes walk and with decent, cooling weather as well. I found out that opposite my building is a Konami building (although, later in the day when i return i would find that the building houses their Esports studio and school. I managed to get a Welcome Suica card at the Information Cafe of Tokyo station after a good 10 minutes of looking at the directory. The process of getting the card was simple as the staff was able to communicate in English. After i have gotten the pass, i started to look for Shinkansen ticketing machines. Because i was leaving in a short while, all of the reserved seats are already occupied and there was not much of a choice here. The plus of a non-reserved Shinkansen ticket is that you are free to board the non-reserved cabins anytime, as the ticket lasts for 4 days. I arrived at the platform to mad crowding. The...
Holy RA it's already near the end of April of 2025. Since the last post i've made a second booking to Japan, been there and returned. The visit this time was less of a rush but at the same time, i spent more time relaxing (idling) in the hotel. Originally i've planned annual visits in October of each year but i kind of felt like going again. So i made a booking towards the end of January. Unfortunately, the timing is not really good this time as the weather was pretty dark and gloomy throughout the trip. The Sun only showed up at the last 2 days of the trip. --- This time, i've visited Shizuoka again for its sushi. Same store. Same taste. I've also went to Enoshima and had "Enoshima Don", a seafood egg rice. I've mistaken "Yurantei" for the "Uomitei" that i wanted to visit. Nonetheless, the food is good. I'll visit someday again. Also, fulfilled my dream of taking the Sunrise Express, visiting Izumo and the famed Izumo Taisha (...
...with how tired i was in Japan daily, it was easy to leave out writing. For example, i'm already back in Singapore. Following the previous post, i made my way to Ueno Park, Senso-ji in Asakusa, Shikansen down to Shizuoka and visited Sunpu Castle, took a river cruise around Sumidagawa with Tokyo Cruise and ended a full day trip spending money in Akihabara buying old consoles. I'll think about whether i want to go into the details. The last actual day, Friday 18 Oct, was kind of a waste as i was "kicked out" of the hotel early and spent the day in the Airport instead. The storage was full so i couldn't leave my luggage in the airport and go somewhere else. I also can only check it in only 3 hours before the actual flight. It's a good trip overall, even with all the downtime. I am already looking forward to returning next year. I am also going to go for a Business class seat again next year.
