Hello everyone. To be honest, i did not intend to make another post this shortly after my previous post, but it's January 4th. Happy Birthday to my friend and card-mate, Wei Jun.
Starting off today, i'll begin a series called "Let's Talk about:...", which i will talk about the topic related with myself, my past and my thoughts about it.
Since today is my first try, let's make it simple.
Let's talk about: Cards and card-mates
Well, being intelligent means i can afford to spend more of my time on other things other than study (I'm not bragging, if you know me you'll know that this is true). I do a lot of stuff in my free time. Gaming, reading and also cards, our main topic for today.
Cards are somewhat a part of my dark history. Why? I'm not afraid to say this, but i've stolen money from my parents just to get what i want. Yeah, it's a little overkill, but i was still young, and thinking really retarded thought like "Cards are my life!" or "I'm going pro!" and things along that line. Of course, i got caught and some severe bashing, but i'd say i have learned a heck lot out of those beatings. I'm stronger now.
When i'm in my secondary school, i'm a little conscious about saving some money just for the purpose of playing cards. It really is a bad habit, but i really enjoyed it. I just played on with friends in my school. Then later, i went out and play with people i didn't know, in a neighborhood shopping mall.
I originally was with a bunch of kids, then somehow there's a transition from my old group to what is known as the 4 person in Wei Jun's group. My initial meeting with him was really bad. I played a match with him, and we had conflicting views about some card effects (Because they're in Japanese...we play the Official game). Back then, i remember how i felt. Utter dislike and extreme hate for people trying to bend the rules to win.
Then when i checked, i was wrong and he was right. Oh, the shame.
It wasn't very soon until i saw him again. Somehow, we began playing together and commonly i played with another 2 people. There's Astley, Kenneth, Wei Jun and me.
I knew Astley first before i knew any of the other 2. He was in the old group with me until we eventually switched to hanging out with the new group. Astley, back then, was a copycat player. He tends to copy wholesale other people's deck (Went so far as hunting down cards all over from the country to complete it). What's funny is, that he can actually win and make it pretty skilled even when using other people's deck. Now, he runs his own ideas and makes out really good. He just have the habit of late-coming and that has gotten him into a lot of trouble...mostly from me.
Kenneth, on the other hand, is an average player. He runs a speedy and painful beatdown deck, which wins really easy because it's easy to use, and fast. Now he's trying modern deck ideas, as well as some decks that are against modern decks (Because they own so much he finds it really annoying). Kenneth is a really good DotA player, but we didn't know that until much later. I used to had fights with him. Just friendly sparring, but somehow we're better now.
Wei Jun, the brain of the group, is the really intelligent guy (Much smarter than me, i'll admit). The surprising fact about him, is that he's actually from reputable schools, from River Valley High to Anglo-Chinese Junior College. It's really a question how he plays so well both at cards and at his studies. Like old friend SP (Persistent Thinker) and Lincoln (Unconventional Thinker), Wei Jun is also similar as a Creative Thinker, that is, he has a lot of ways to get out of situations quickly. He prefers to solve things in a creative way over winning, as demonstrated in his card-playing. Like me, we like to play non-meta decks that are just for fun. The difference is just that his worked out better than mine.
Me? I'm just an average player despite the years i've been playing. I'm not like them in the sense that i don't really buy or trade a lot (Astley is an active trader and runs all over Singapore, Kenneth buys 3 similar magazines to get 3 copies of the card he needs, Wei Jun recently spent 300 bucks to buy another person's worldly possession of cards. I have had my time. I started out well and i just win and win and win. But slowly, when i faced the public, i knew how i little i was. So, now i just play card games for fun, and with a spoonful of salt.

That's it for today's "Let's talk about"
By the way, i've been awarded the Merit Bursary Award again. Since Secondary 3, it keeps coming. It's a good thing but...whatever, i'm not the person to bear the punishment anyway.
See you next time.
