Ok, here comes the big update after a month...where should i begin?

Let's start with the MI Official Opening (16th May 2009), which i can describe in a few words:

"Utterly disappointing".

Perhaps it's caused by the influenza, but because of that the whole carnival got toned down to a very small scale of say, the canteen and the basketball court. The booths were really...similar in a way or two. The environment is kind of awkward to move about as well...heck i can only think of complains.

Although i did ask a few of my friends to go, ranging from my ex-schoolmates, my card-mates, and even my GE Faction mates, my main party for that day was with my card-mates. We went down there first and not surprisingly all of them had the same thoughts as i have: Boring. I already have regrets calling them all over to such a boring place (Seriously).

After i passed my coupons to Meng Yang (with guilt, of course), i left the place and walk to the nearest MRT, that trip took us 20 minutes. It wasn't as short as i expected.

The rest of the day really is nothing, just travelling and stuff.

To a nearer past, the science marathon (1st and 2nd June).

It was helpful to have a consolidation day like this to help us strengthen our understanding of the Physics concepts. I learnt, through that marathon, that pure knowledge without practice can lead to failure, because the questions can be adjusted and modified such that the student could not identify the topic and requirements of the question. Yet the knowledge itself forms the basis of answering a question. Hence, both components: Knowledge and Practice, are essential for a good result.

Even if it's only by a little, i felt that i understood the concepts of Superposition (Which is commonly known as a killer topic for its confusing concept). The practice with various JC papers also helped in some way.

But the paper they gave, the MI Prelim paper 2008 was a killer...i guess i'll just consult the teacher soon.

Moving on to Maths Marathon...(4th and 8th June).

Ok, it wasn't really a marathon. It's just a normal Maths remedial. With the revision of topics like Series & Progression, Correlation, Sampling, Graphing Techniques and Functions.

I'd say i still need help with some topics, like Vectors and Complex Numbers...guess i have to look for my teacher or Wei Jun...

One funny thing on the 2nd day, when Mr P said, in front of the whole 3-4 classes in the centre stage using the microphone, that someone on the Accounting notice board looked like me. Then went on and tease me and stuff, all happening in front of the whole class. The whole situation was just embarassing.

Nothing much more about maths except to practise and practise.

Extra events: Parent-support group career guidance programme (6th June).

The programme is supposed to start at 8.45am, but the MC for the talk, made us listen to music until 9.30am, to 'let us relax and wake us up'. It really is just a prep talk at the start, but slowly it became interesting.

Career options.

I was glad to be advised by Mr Nicolas Sim, who gave me some opinions on my career choices: Accountant/ Lecturer. It was really insightful, because it's from an experienced worker.

But the key idea at the end is still: "Good results". Oh well.

Ok, i finished watching an anime series called "Soukyuu no Fafner", or just "Fafner of the Azure" in plain english. My interest was picqued while playing the Super Robot Wars game, and so i just spent 3 days to rush through the series.

It was quite some unique story, in the sense that, a lot of key characters died and conflicts happened between friends. To sacrifice oneself for others, to protect others, concepts like this were strong in the series. Perhaps the best theme in the series is "Acceptance". As said by one of the main character, Makabe Akane, "Acceptance itself is a form of blessing."

...and i swear, the last part about Tsubaki Minashiro going back in Walkure's Cave was just like Misha returning to the Crescent Chronicle to sing and save the world in Ar Tonelico. It was a really sad scene and got me close to tears, with their wonderful use of music (Fafner played some really sad-sounding piano set and Ar Tonelico had Exec. Chronicle Key.)

Hypnotised by their ending theme: Separation. One of the verse is:

[あたし行かなくちゃ]
atashi ikanakucha
I have to go

The ending theme had two starting points, and fitted as according with the scenario. They started with this verse whenever someone died or something of the sort (Kazuki first left the island, Kouyou got assimilated by the Festums, Sakura felt into deep sleep). It was really awesome, their use of music. Catch it if you have the time.

Ok this is a really long post. I leaving here. Stay well, all of you.

Day 2...but i will be writing about yesterday instead. I set off early in the morning at 8am towards Tokyo station from my hotel. It was a good 20 minutes walk and with decent, cooling weather as well. I found out that opposite my building is a Konami building (although, later in the day when i return i would find that the building houses their Esports studio and school. I managed to get a Welcome Suica card at the Information Cafe of Tokyo station after a good 10 minutes of looking at the directory. The process of getting the card was simple as the staff was able to communicate in English. After i have gotten the pass, i started to look for Shinkansen ticketing machines. Because i was leaving in a short while, all of the reserved seats are already occupied and there was not much of a choice here. The plus of a non-reserved Shinkansen ticket is that you are free to board the non-reserved cabins anytime, as the ticket lasts for 4 days. I arrived at the platform to mad crowding. The...
Holy RA it's already near the end of April of 2025. Since the last post i've made a second booking to Japan, been there and returned. The visit this time was less of a rush but at the same time, i spent more time relaxing (idling) in the hotel. Originally i've planned annual visits in October of each year but i kind of felt like going again. So i made a booking towards the end of January. Unfortunately, the timing is not really good this time as the weather was pretty dark and gloomy throughout the trip. The Sun only showed up at the last 2 days of the trip. --- This time, i've visited Shizuoka again for its sushi. Same store. Same taste. I've also went to Enoshima and had "Enoshima Don", a seafood egg rice. I've mistaken "Yurantei" for the "Uomitei" that i wanted to visit. Nonetheless, the food is good. I'll visit someday again. Also, fulfilled my dream of taking the Sunrise Express, visiting Izumo and the famed Izumo Taisha (...
...with how tired i was in Japan daily, it was easy to leave out writing. For example, i'm already back in Singapore. Following the previous post, i made my way to Ueno Park, Senso-ji in Asakusa, Shikansen down to Shizuoka and visited Sunpu Castle, took a river cruise around Sumidagawa with Tokyo Cruise and ended a full day trip spending money in Akihabara buying old consoles. I'll think about whether i want to go into the details. The last actual day, Friday 18 Oct, was kind of a waste as i was "kicked out" of the hotel early and spent the day in the Airport instead. The storage was full so i couldn't leave my luggage in the airport and go somewhere else. I also can only check it in only 3 hours before the actual flight. It's a good trip overall, even with all the downtime. I am already looking forward to returning next year. I am also going to go for a Business class seat again next year.
