Well, i'm owing this for a few weeks, had the time to do it now, so why not?
Game Review #3: Dead Rising (Xbox 360 version)
Story: 8/10
The story starts out as photojournalist Frank West got a scoop about a town having some major events happening. He entered the town via helicopter and from it, he saw violence and destruction happening all over the place of the town. All of a sudden, military helicopters are after them, and Frank decided to stay in a local mall for 3 days, telling the pilot to come back after 3 days. From there, Frank needs to survive, with or without the help of other survivors, and the need to deal with psychopaths, people who became insane since the incident started.
Nothing much is known about the plot from the start, you don't know how the zombies came about, you don't know why the military sealed up the town. Almost nothing. To sort of mess the story up more, they threw in characters from a third party. However bad the start is, as the game progresses, the story unfolds like magic. All of the things from the start are answered, with twists here and there, hence all that suspense is actually well used.
Gameplay: 8/10
Dead Rising is, in my opinion, an action RPG. It features a leveling system: As Frank levels up, he gains more abilities that helped him to combat zombies with more ease, or improvements in stats.
Most of the gameplay deals with the player controlling Frank and dealing with Zombies. The interesting thing is almost everything can be used as a weapon against the zombies: Chairs to parasols, shower heads to sledgehammers, guns to laser cannons. The meat, however, is to escort survivors safely to the safe room from all over the big mall. Frank can command survivors to a certain extent, and even give them weapons to let them join in the fray.
...but like most games with A.I. controls, they are not really good at responding or sometimes may do stupid things to get the player in trouble. This is pretty much the only problem i have with the game.
Music: 7/10
Well, you're a character in a shopping mall, so it doesn't really surprise people if you hear a lot of mall music. By that, i meant soothing music that is really boring in such a game. Characters do have their own theme music, but most of the time, they are a little to soft to notice. Still, the use of their mall music puts you in the atmosphere of a mall. Cool.
Overall: 7/10

Oh well, i'm done with this post.
